SCHOOL TIME

back-to-school.1Hope everyone had a great summer around Heron Lake. School starts up next week and it’s time for everyone to start watching for kids and bikes in the mornings around here.

HERON LAKE OKABENA – Start Date September 5th

WINDOM AREA SCHOOLS – Bus’s deliver and pick up in Heron Lake, Starts Date:  SEPT 5th (4th – 12th Grades); SEPT 7th (KG to 3rd)

Time to refresh our driving skills and watch for the bus’s as well. Reminder to stop for any bus that extends it stop arm signal, and there are several drop off points in Heron Lake including on County Highways going through town.

June was a very busy month for the police department (Check Blotter Post for Details) Here are the statistics for June.

In June the Police Department Focused on traffic enforcement including directed traffic enforcement on 3rd Avenue, 10th Street NW, 11th Street and Hwy 60 after receiving reports of engine breaking, speeding and juveniles driving carelessly.

Dogs

In July the Police Department is going to focus on animal enforcement which includes the city ordinances requiring dog registration and dogs being controlled as not to run at large. Owners of dogs found to be at large are subject to petty misdemeanor citation with a fine not to exceed 100.00 dollars if dogs at large are found without tags attached an additional 100.00 petty misdemeanor charge will be assessed in the citation. Animal owners found to have not registered their dogs with the City in 2017 will be assessed a 100.00 petty misdemeanor fine per animal. Your cooperation as responsible pet owners is appreciated.
